The Poem

Like a bud

Like a bud

Like a bud that guards its wholeness

Against a passing breeze

I clutch my secrets

From an omniscient world Pain is the chisel

That chips away the granite

Till the trembling centre stands exposed So

many have drunk

In my sky-mirroring well

Their flames echo

Within my mossy walls

When you held me in your arms

Secrets blossomed in explosions of light

In a lambent, joyous glow

That hurt your eyes

You turned away

Even now, in the embraces of others I

fear the way you recoiled

My only allies are poems tike these

That carry my secrets on their wings To

other climes, other alleys

Till they are mine no longer

Innocence tip-toes back

To the empty spaces of my heart again

will you come then, my love

To see the colour of nothingness

In my eyes ?
